Couples Massage Workshop FAQ

What’s this bit about a workshop? Don’t you offer couples massage?

While I may be able to arrange a couples massage for you, in which you and your partner receive massages at the same time in the same space, what I’m offering here is a workshop in which you and your partner learn to massage each other. Imagine - for the cost of a few massages, you could gain the skills to work on each other every day!

Sounds intimidating. Will we really be able to rub each other well after one workshop?

Massage is a skill, and there’s a lot to learn about the body… But massage has been part of human interaction since the days of cavemen and women keeping warm around the fire, and when you bring your love and comforting intentions to a massage with your partner, you really can’t help but give a great massage.

So what do we get out of a workshop, then?

I’m currently teaching a Back Massage for Couples workshop that is intended to give you great massage technique, good body mechanics, lots of tips on equipment and supplies, and an opportunity to connect with your partner in a new and nurturing way. You’ll go home with a happy and relaxed partner, mad skillz, illustrated handouts, and a bottle of premium massage lotion. Trust me, the class ROCKS!

Prove it.

Check out reviews from some past participants of the workshop at http://www.insiderpages.com/. I’m listed under Taproot Bodywork Resource, LLC.

So what is the workshop like?

Your workshop will start with a brief introduction to your instructor, and to the other participants in the class.  We’ll discuss  what challenges you’ve encountered while massaging your mate, so that I can tailor the class to your needs.  We’ll spend about 30 to 45 minutes talking about the relevant anatomy, body mechanics, and advantages of massaging on a massage table.  Then we get to the good stuff!  One partner will get on the table, and be the recipient of 90 minutes of massage.  I usually spend about an hour teaching, and allow another 1/2 hour for extra practice, clarification, or tips for specific trouble spots.  We take a 15 minute break, and the second partner gets on the table for their 90 minutes of bliss.  We end the class with a quick feedback session, and you go home to practice!

How big are the workshops?

No more than 3 couples, so you get lots of attention from a professional massage therapist.

Um, will we be naked in front of other couples?

Taking this workshop does require you to be comfortable exposing your back to 1 or 2 other couples. I put screens up between each table so that the massage receivers can change with privacy. For the back massage workshop, you will be face down throughout the majority of the class. Any body part that isn’t being worked on will always be appropriately covered by the sheets and blankets.

Ok, but we’re shy….

No worries. You can schedule a private session, for an extra fee.

What if we want to learn more than just back massage?

I’m hoping to develop two more workshops over the coming months… Keep an eye out for a Massage Greatest Hits class, which will teach you to massage all those places that make you go ahhhhhh… hands, feet, shoulders, necks, scalps, and perhaps faces. The capstone class, which will require both the Back Massage and Greatest Hits workshops as prerequisites, will be a weekend-long retreat, in which you’ll learn to put it all together in a full body massage.

Also, if you’ve taken the Back Massage workshop, and want to learn something specific to help your partner with his sore hip, for example, you can schedule private sessions by the hour.

When is the workshop?

Workshops are typically offered on weekend afternoons.  Back Massage for Couples is a single-session, 4 hour workshops. Check the ‘Upcoming Classes’ section on this website for current offerings.

We’ve got friends we’d like to take the workshop with.

Awesome! Pick a date that works for all of you, and I’ll accomodate your schedule.

We want to talk to you before we register…
